Meet the owner
David Torres
Más que comida… Somos Familia ♥
David Torres is a proud Chicagoan, accountant, entrepreneur, and longtime community advocate. A graduate of Steinmetz High School in Chicago, David went on to earn his Bachelor's degree in Accounting from North Park University.
For the past 28 years, David has served individuals, families, and small businesses through D Tax People, a Latino and Puerto Rican family-owned business. Throughout his career, he has built lasting relationships within the community, helping generations of families navigate their taxes and finances with trust, respect, and personal attention.
Continuing his commitment to entrepreneurship and community, David has now begun a new chapter with Mi Gente Café. More than a business, Mi Gente Café represents David's Puerto Rican heritage, his love for Chicago, and his desire to create a welcoming place where people can come together, connect, and feel at home.
From accounting to entrepreneurship, David's journey has always been rooted in family, hard work, culture, and service to the community he has proudly called home.
Married to Monica, they have two children — Elani and Nehemiah.
